Kankerfoto's

Self initiated
Utrecht, The Netherlands
2017

My most personal and emotional project to date. Probably ever. A visual diary of my mother's illness, and my attempt to remember something amidst the storm. I found myself drawn to details. To the small, sometimes mundaine artifacts that surrounded her. Like socks with smiley faces, family-sent balloons, empty midnight hallways. The smaller the parts, the smaller the illness? Kankerfoto's was never preconceived, but originated as a coping mechanism, something to do, something to let my mind wander in-between the appointments, the waiting, the broken nights and slivers of false hope. I cannot tell you how much I miss her.
